From Hawaii News Now
This Thursday morning, I woke up with news of the Big Island of the 50th state dealing with aftermath of Hurricane/Tropical Storm Iselle. As the first important question, everyone in my family is a-OK. On the Big Island, though, there are still over 6000 residents without electricity. More bottle waters are being shipped into the city. One fallout from the Hurricane is the state's primary election, which was held this past Saturday. Two precincts, which leaves 6,782 remaining registered voters on the Big Island who didn't vote because of damage in the area from the storm will be given the opportunity to do so on Friday. U.S. Senator Brian Schatz presently is leading U.S. Representative Colleen Hanabusa by 1,635 votes. With the polls closing at midnight (EST) early Saturday morning, the first printout reports is expected at about 1:30am Saturday morning. There is another Tropical Storm Karina headed toward Hawaii, but not really projected directly affecting the island--yet! It still might be several days away to specifically know if it will affect the 50th State.
North of where I live in St. Louis more unrest in Ferguson, Missouri because of the death of an 18-year-old African-American in the hands of the mostly white city police force. Tonight, the governor has called upon the Missouri Highway Patrol to take the lead for security. So far, the demonstration has been more peaceful.
All day today I was getting update on the 2014 Global Leadership Summit, which builds more knowledge or resources on how to improve on leading teams. Time permitting, I may share some of my thoughts about it in a future post.
