Merry 2012 Christmas ... Hawaiian way!

I wish all my friends and family this 2012 year, Mele Kalikimaka!  I hope that all your wishes come true this holiday season.  I have one more day at work and then I'm off for three days in a row, and won't have to report to work till Friday.  I look forward to some rest.  I will be working on the top seven personal stories of 2012.  What would be your top stories?  Until then, have a wonderful 2012 Christmas Eve and Christmas Day!

Skills needed for 2013 jobs

For anyone that needs a job--or change jobs for a position "better," I read this article on the Wall Street Journal from MarketWatch.com by Ruth Mantell, a reporter worth consideration.  I thought that what the article said was worth giving serious thought and action.  I never grew up believing that I was guaranteed a job.  I learned that I had to have skills and talents that are marketable to fit a job that was offered.  The workers entering the workforce have difference perspectives about work today.

• Communication.  This is the ability to communicate a position within several minutes to connect with people.  It's the ability to communicate longer than 140 characters.

• Personal Branding.  Companies that hire workers must like what they read on even social network sites.

• Flexibility.  The ability to adapt to the changing needs of the customer base.

• Productivity Improvement.  The foresight to be more productive in our jobs by being proactive about anything that would stop anyone from getting the results of which we are hired to do.

I would agree with all the suggestions that are mentioned here.  Just in case you all don't have access to the Wall Street Journal, it's worth considering in anyone's efforts to find a job.  In my business, I wish that all my team members would understand the four bullet points mentioned.

Planning for 50th birthday next year yesterday ... and Sunshine's idea

Yesterday, on November 30, I celebrated my 49th birthday at work.  I thought about what I would like to do for my 50th birthday, next year

What do you think that I should commit for a day, a few days or several days?  Give me some suggestions.  If you don't have any suggestions, what have you done to make your milestone birthday memorable?  Please let me know your creative suggestions.

I discussed plans for next year with my Sunshine and she suggested that we make a visit back to Washington D.C. for a week or so.  We can contact our U.S. Representative to ensure that we can get into our symbols of our national history, like a tour of the White House, in time for that week we are visiting.  I like the idea.  Does anyone else have any other suggestions?

My bad. ... I have been corrected, and rightly so, by my Sunshine that she has been planning on the trip to Washington D.C. for a few months.  She ended up discussing it with me yesterday.
