For my birthday this year last Tuesday my Sunshine and I drove down to Atlanta. It was a two-stop visit to CNN headquarters and the other place was to El Pollo Loco. Just like my passion for NASCAR, many wouldn’t understand my interest in going to CNN headquarters for the group tours to watch how the news is broadcasted. This was my second trip to the location; the first in May 2006.
My Sunshine and I was put into a mocked control room, saw where the main high definition studio is in Atlanta that they just started to broadcast from this year, and I even took a picture at a mocked anchor desk.
I was trying to get a picture of my Sunshine at the CNN Center, but the rain moments before entering the complex didn’t make her picture-friendly.
Visiting CNN is strange right now, because I hardly watch the network. I am more tuned into Fox News. We will be visiting New York soon, and a tour of Fox News headquarters in New York will be on the agenda.
Let me say that my interest in how the news is broadcast started when I was living in Hawaii and I even took tours of the local television affiliate, ABC and now, the FOX station, KITV and KHON. respectively. I even remembered doing a research paper interviewing the news directors at those stations. If I find the project, I’ll post it on the blog.
I enjoyed the visit to El Pollo Loco as usual. I even saw the manager, Marvin, who has always made us feel welcome. The only concerned that I had was that the Pico De Gallo that I usually get seemed to be made out of canned tomatoes instead of fresh ones. I hope that cost of tomatoes hasn’t made the company lower their quality.
